Yesterday, The A.C.E. Bus rumbled into the Holy Redeemer parking lot, welcomed by enthusiastic students. An old friend of HR, Fr. Lou, brought the A.C.E. Bus to Holy Redeemer all the way from the University of Notre Dame. A.C.E., which stands for Alliance for Catholic Education, has been traveling to Catholic schools around the country to celebrate Catholic education. Their stop in Portland marked the 49th city they have hit on their 50 city tour. After greeting the bus, an assembly followed featuring student speeches, performances from the school orchestra and choir, and an award given to Monsignor Tim Murphy. However, the energy in the room really picked up when Fr. John announced the official Jog-A-Thon results. The kids came back from an early deficit to defeat Fr. John and exceed their goal, earning a day off of school on Friday May 23! It was a fun morning and an important reminder of the impact of a Catholic education.
Students took part in the Jog-A-Thon on Friday morning, running their hearts out in order to raise money for the school. It looks as if we might reach our goal once all the laps and dollars are counted. Kudos to the kids for their hard work on this fundraiser and thank you to all the parents and friends of the school who contributed.
This morning we took to the gym to measure the dimensions of the HR basketball court. After collecting our data, we calculated the area of various parts of the court, and then compared the area of our court to the court that the Portland Trail Blazers play on. It turns out that Damian Lillard, LaMarcus Aldridge, Nicolas Batum, Wesley Matthews, and Robin Lopez have to cover a lot more ground during their games than we do during our fierce CYO battles.
