Get Gritty

Angela Lee Duckworth believes that the key to achievement is not necessarily how talented or intelligent you are, but whether or not you possess grit. I tend to agree. “Grit is passion and perseverance for very long term goals,” She says. “Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future day in day out, not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years. And working really hard to make that future a reality. Grit is living life like it’s a marathon, not a sprint.”

It’s a great message to give to our children. Children need to learn to keep pushing through their failures and fight through challenges. I do my best each day to deliver this message to my students (and my daughters too). Significant achievement is a deliberate process. Consistently make good choices, work hard, overcome obstacles and mistakes, and you will likely find yourself with many options in life.
